Covid-19 task force opposes lifting of the lockdown

Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Immunisation alongside the Covid-19 task force has advised President Museveni against lifting the Covid-19 induced lockdown.

Basing on them, the country still has not achieved the required immunization rate which is the reason why it is not wise to lift the lockdown as it could only worsen the condition in the country.

According to the Chief Epidemiologist at the Covid-19 Taskforce, Dr. Monica Musenero, the government shall only lift the lockdown after they have accomplished their goal of vaccinating at least half of the population.

Despite this plan, Dr. Musenero went on to inform that the acquisition of vaccines has remained a huge challenge to the country which only means the target number of people meant to be vaccinated has not been accomplished.

Dr. Musenero however still remains noncommittal in reference to the lifting of the mandatory 42 days lockdown.

“We are fighting a dangerous enemy, soon we shall start seeing a steady decline in CoviD-19 deaths. As we come to the end of the 42 days, we shall wait for the guidance of Museveni. The Ministry is working hard towards bringing the vaccines,” Musenero said.

President Museveni’s Press Secretary Linda Nabusayi, the president shall be addressing the nation in relation to the Covid-19 come Saturday at 8:00 pm and his address shall be broadcast on all radio and television stations.
