Emmanuel Macron urges the construction of the East African pipeline

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron has encouraged Uganda and Tanzania to speed up the construction of the Uganda-Tanzania pipeline that will run from the Western Uganda oil basin to one of Tanzania’s seaports Tanga.

Emmanuel Macron believes that cooperation between the two countries on such a profitable venture shall improve their relationship as well as their relationship with other countries for better business deals and earn both countries a huge profit.

In his letter addressed to the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, said the USD 3.55 construction project is such a firm and great opportunity for both countries as it is lucrative.

The pipeline is estimated to be approximately 1,440 km making it the world’s longest electrically heated pipeline and will Transport at least 230,000 barrels of crude oil on a daily basis.

Uganda and Tanzania were meant to have sealed off the deal during March. However, the sudden death of Tanzania’s former president John Pombe Magufuli saw the signing of the deal being postpone to 11th April between President Museveni and newly appointed Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu.
