URA Pledges To Assist Taxpayers To Beat Deadline For Filing Tax Returns

URA has showed it’s willingness to help taxpayers beat the deadline of filing their tax returns as the financial year nears an end.

The deadline for these is set at June 30th 2021. The announcement was passed on in a joint message by the executive director of Uganda Manufacturer’s Association (UMA) together with the chairperson of Kampala city traders association (KACITA) and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).

The statement sought to guide and advise taxpayers on issues to do with their taxes that might arise from non tax compliance.

The executive Director of UMA Daniel Barungi asked manufacturers to adhere to the necessities and file their tax returns before the deadline of June 30th.

He added that compliance to the tax system is good to keep the government and general country running.

Barungi further added that it also helps companies to avoid unnecessary disruptions arising from non tax compliance.

He also said that UMA had instituted a team to help taxpayers who are struggling with filing their tax returns. These are to supplement the work of URA.

Everest Kayondo the chairperson of KACITA called upon all traders that fall under his jurisdiction to observe and fulfill their roles. He said these should file tax returns in time. This would help them to avoid penalties levied on those who do not file their tax returns on time.

“Even if you do not make money, you have to file your returns and let URA know that you didn’t make any profits perhaps because of Covid-19. Only make sure that your filing is on record and that it is timely so that you do not incur unnecessary expenditures,” Everest said.

According to the URA commissioner general John Rujoki Musinguzi officers stationed at all URA officers across the country are ready help all those in need of their services to beat this deadline.

He further advised taxpayers to make use of the online platforms to file their tax returns. This is in line with observing the covid 19 guidelines.
